Orthopaedic Trauma

Fractures or broken bones are one of the most common types of injuries sustained by individuals of all ages. Most of the time, these injuries are relatively minor and can be treated using casts or splints; however, some cases do require surgery.

Few hospitals in Singapore specialise in the treatment of broken bones with the same level of experience and expertise as the Orthopaedic trauma surgeons at NUH. We provide comprehensive management of all fractures; including the upper extremity and lower extremity, pelvis, acetabulum and other bones and joints, isolated fractures/ dislocations, and poly-trauma. We aim to facilitate a speedy and well-rounded recovery for all our patients. The surgical team is available 24 hours a day, all year round. Patients are admitted to our care via the NUH Emergency Medicine Department, by referral to our Specialist Outpatient Clinic, and by referral from other hospitals and doctors, including General Practitioners (GPs).

More complex injuries often require highly specialised treatment. The Orthopaedic Trauma division provides a dedicated team of fellowship-trained surgeons to successfully manage severe and life-threating injuries. Patient care is optimised through the coordination of a multi-disciplinary team of specialists within the departments of Orthopaedic Surgery, General Surgery - Trauma Division, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery and Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery (which provides upper extremity services including microvascular and reconstructive surgery). We provide a holistic approach to the care of our patients with rehabilitation physicians, nurses, clinicians, pain team and physiotherapy services working together to optimise outcome.
